Imagine taking your family to a festival for an enjoyable Sunday, and suddenly it turns violent.

The nightmare became very real for families that attended the Gilroy Garlic Festival yesterday.  A gunman opened fire and killed three people, injuring 12 more.  The suspect was killed.  Police are searching for a second suspect

KCRA reports, “the victims of the shooting were a man in his 20s named Trevor Irby, 13-year-old Keyla Salazar and 6-year-old Stephen Romero.

Here’s What Happened

KCRA reports, the suspect cut through a fence to get into the festival, and opened fire by the stage around 5:40pm.  He was shooting randomly.

Witnesses say at first they thought it was fireworks, then they started running when they realized the noise was gunshots instead. Families ran for cover, many getting separated.  Within one minute police engaged and killed the suspect. Here’s the audio of the response by police.

Police have released the name of one of the victims.  Sadly, he was just a 6 year old boy. His name is Steven Ramiro. His mother and grandmother were both injured as well.

Who Did This?

CBS news reports the suspect has been identified as Santino William Legan, 19.

NBC reports his social media footprint references white supremacist literature. Police are also looking for a second suspect.  KCRA has reported that police are at a home in the area.  It is unclear if it’s the shooter or a second suspect.

Witness Reports

Families report running, hiding under tables, getting separated, and even seeing blood everywhere. One mother was just in line getting a sandwich when she heard the shots and fled with her 4 year old daughter.

In one video posted to Facebook, a man and his family hid behind a shuttle van as police sirens can be heard in the background.
