Right after rumors starting spreading around that Kevin Hart might be hosting the Oscars next year, he confirmed the news!
This will be the first time the comedian is emceeing the event, and he couldn’t be more excited. “I will be sure to make this years Oscars a special one,” Hart wrote on Instagram on Dec. 4. “I appreciate @TheAcademy for the opportunity. Now it’s time to rise to the occasion.”

In the past couple of years, Oscars rating have unfortunately plummeted. According to The Hollywood Reporter, last year’s event hit a record-low of 26.5 million viewers. As one of the most popular comedians in the game right now, the Academy is looking to Hart to help boost those ratings.
Though he’s never hosted the Oscars before, Hart does have emcee experience. He and Dwayne Johnson, his Central Intelligence co-star, previously hosted the MTV Music Awards. Hart has been publicly vocal about wanting to host the Oscars since 2015, so it’s great to finally see him achieve this goal.
The Academy Awards will air on ABC on Feb. 24.
