Just as we’re heading into travel season, officials say it’s not “if”, but “when” a coronavirus outbreak will spread across the U.S.

Here are a few simple things you can do to prepare right now to prepare your family for a potential outbreak according to the Department of Homeland Security:

  • Stock up on over the counter medicine like pain relievers and cough & cold medicines
  • Make sure to have a supply of medications you routinely use
  • Keep a two week supply of nonperishable food and bottled water on hand for the entire family
  • Stock up on soap, laundry detergent and baby supplies for at least a month in case there is any disruption to the supply chain

Coronavirus is spread through saliva and by coughing and sneezing or direct contact with people who are sick.

The number 1 thing you can do to prevent the coronavirus is wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Really scrub to get any germs off, and do it frequently.

One of the biggest germ carriers is your phone, so make sure you’re also wiping it down often

If you develop a headache, runny nose, dry cough, fever, sore throat and shortness of breath don’t wait. See your doctor.
