How Long The Sacramento Curfew Is Expected To Stay In Effect

City officials are not rescinding the curfew for a while.

After days of protest following the death of George Floyd, the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew will stay in place through the weekend. 

“Then we’ll start fresh next week,” Mayor Darrell Steinberg told The Sacramento Bee.

As for as how long the 500 National Guard troops with remain in town, Steinberg says they will probably stick around for at leas a few more days.

Last weekend, after peaceful protests ended, splinter groups went on a crime spree causing an estimated $10 million in damage. Much of the damage was incurred by small, locally owned businesses just beginning to recover from the pandemic shutdown were vandalized. 

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested more than 60 people for curfew violation in the past two days.

Around the site
