George Michael’s sister, Melanie Panyiotou, died on Christmas Day – exactly 3 years to the day after her brother’s death.

The hairdresser was found in her London home by her sister Yioda. The death was sudden and unexpected, but not being treated as suspicious by police, according to Metro. The cause of death has not been revealed.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious by police. ‘A report will be compiled for the Coroner into the circumstances.’ Lawyer John Reid said on behalf of the family: ‘We can confirm that very tragically Melanie has passed away suddenly. ‘We would simply ask that the family’ s privacy be respected at this very sad time.’

Melanie was close to George, who died on Christmas Day 2016 at 53 years old. He was also found dead in his home. A subsequent autopsy later cited an enlarged heart and fatty liver as contributory factors in his death.

Just last month, Melanie commented on the film “Last Christmas” which was based around George’s music.

“Yog [her nickname for George] adored Christmas and he loved the idea of this film. I am sure he will be enjoying seeing Emilia [Clarke]’s amazing light bulb smile, something they share, across the celestial miles.” She then added … “And, most importantly, we all, together with our dear departed Yog (my ‘very proud to be gay’ brother — contrary to what you may have read recently!) wish a very merry, merry, Christmas …”

Melanie was 55 years old.
