Downtown Sacramento Traffic Expected To Be A MESS This Weekend

Here’s what you need to know.

Be prepared for extreme traffic congestion in Downtown Sacramento this weekend, especially Saturday.

The Amgen Tour of California which, according to The Sacramento Bee, is expected to draw tens of thousands of people will be blasting into town, closing dozens of streets. Sac State will be holding three spring graduation ceremonies at the Golden 1 Center. Meanwhile McGeorge School of Law has its commencement at Memorial Auditorium. Additionally, “An American in Paris” is performing at the Community Center Theater, and a volleyball tournament is taking place at the Convention Center.

Sac State has alerted students and families to allow an extra 90 minutes to their travel plans for Saturday’s graduations just to find a parking spot and get to the arena.

Several road closures will be in effect:

  • L Street from 9th to 19th streets
  • Capitol Mall from 3rd to 10th
  • N Street from 7th to 15th
  • Q Street from 14th to 19th Street
  • 18th Street from L to Q
  • 10th Street from J to P streets
  • 11th street from N to P streets (on-street parking restricted)
  • 12th Street from N to O Streets (on-street parking restricted)
  • 15th street from J to R
