This week, we learn about Fourth & Hope who provides care for the hungry and homeless by moving them from the streets to stability in Yolo County. Their mission is to feed, clothe, shelter, and facilitate recovery for those in need.

 

This week, we learn about CCHAT Center Sacramento. Their mission is to teach children who are deaf and hard of hearing to develop the necessary speaking, listening, and communication skills required for lifelong success. They also offer parent support and education through free educational workshops.

 

This week, we learn more about Firefighters Burn Institute. They provide burn survivors with support, resources, and recovery programs. Their mission includes burn research, public education, fire and burn prevention, and burn recovery for survivors and their families, which extends far beyond the firefighting community to any and all burn survivors.

 

This week, we learn about Heroic Girls Foundation. They are a pop culture-based nonprofit that advocates for better representation of women and girls in movies, television, books, comics and other mass media in order to combat harmful gender norms that hold women and girls back in the real world.

 

This week, we learn about Uplift People of Elk Grove who help individuals and families break the cycle of poverty and move to a place of more abundant lives. They use a holistic approach that focuses on avoiding homelessness, moving off public assistance, planning for the future, goal setting, and moving from a place of surviving to thriving.

 

This week, we learn about Journey to the Heart Horse Sanctuary. They provide a sanctuary for people and horses to heal emotionally, physically and spiritually together.

 
 
This week, we learn about Hands 4 Hope. They help youth gain awareness of need in their communities while inspiring compassion and the desire to take action. They empower youth to create, develop, and implement projects that make a positive impact in their community.
 
 
 
This week, we learn about Yolo Farm to Fork. They provide garden-centered and farm-based education to students. They are dedicated to bringing locally grown farm-fresh food to school meals and to reducing waste through recycling and composting.

For National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this week, we learn more about Wellness Within Cancer Support Services in Roseville. They are a nonprofit wellness center for patients, survivors, caregivers, and families affected by the trauma of cancer.
 
 
 
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, and this week, we learn more about the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation. They are a volunteer-based organization that raises funds to fight breast cancer and to promote education and outreach throughout Placer and Sacramento Counties.
 
 
 
This week, we are kicking off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by focusing on Carrie’s Touch, a local nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of African American women diagnosed with breast cancer. This week we will be speaking with the founder of Dress for Success Sacramento. They provide a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. They are focused exclusively on empowering and serving disadvantaged women to compete for jobs, build careers and improve the quality of life for their families.

 

This week, we learn about the Fly Brave Foundation. They offer employment training for adults with developmental disabilities. In addition to vocational training, they help develop social/life skills and provide support for healthy living through fitness programs.

 

This week, we learn more about Pride Industries Inc. – They provide employment training, services, and opportunities for people with disabilities.

 

This week, we find out more about Friends for Survival Inc. – They provide a variety of peer support services that comfort, encourage, and educate those in grief.

 

This week, we find out more about Adopt-A-Senior in Lincoln. They provide comfort, joy, and companionship to seniors living in care facilities in Lincoln.

 

This week, we learn more about Grace in Action, serving homeless and low-income individuals in Davis. Their purpose is to restore hope and dignity through compassionate care, spiritual companionship, and referrals to local agencies.

 

This week, we spotlight the Food Literacy Center. They teach children in low-income elementary schools cooking, nutrition, gardening, and active play to improve our health, environment, and economy.

 

This week, we learn more about Clipped In for Life. They create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to find achievement, adventure, and connection through cycling events and programs. They host free and paid cycling clinics throughout the year and also partner with local trail stewardship organizations, so there are many ways to volunteer and get involved! 

 

This week, we find out more about 350 Sacramento, a volunteer-run, grassroots organization that is committed to sustainability and creating a safe climate for all people and the planet. They have a number of upcoming events and projects to educate on and involve Sacramentans in climate solutions. Check out the video on all of our social channels beginning on Friday.

 

 

This week we learn more about Just Serve, an organization that connects people with volunteer opportunities. We will hear about recent projects, as well as ongoing opportunities, big and small, to make a difference in our community.

 

This week, we learn more about Angels for Hearts. They bring normalcy to pediatric heart patients ages newborn to 18, both in and out of the hospital. They do this through a variety of programs, including a first-of-its-kind annual series of golf clinics, held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.  

 

This week, we learn more about the work of the Triumph Cancer Foundation. They provide specialized programs that empower adult cancer survivors to recapture their lives after cancer treatment at no cost to the participant. 

 

This week, we learn more about Build & Restore International. They organize and implement construction restoration projects for churches, schools, and in some cases homes of those hit by natural disasters. They are looking for volunteers to help with some upcoming local projects, as well as support for their ongoing efforts to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.

 

This week we will learn more about Saba, Sacramento area bicycle advocates. Saba’s mission is to help make the region a better, healthier, and safer environment by enabling more people to choose bicycling for everyday travel. Their work includes advocacy, technical assistance and community engagement.

This week, we learn more about the Wellspring Women’s Center, providing a sense of community to women experiencing poverty and its outcomes—physical, mental, emotional, and societal. 

 

This week, we learn more about the work of Gold Country Wildlife Rescue in Auburn. They provide life-saving care to injured and orphaned wildlife in the greater Sacramento area. They are looking for volunteers to help as they rehabilitate and release these animals back into the wild!  Check it out at mix96sac.com or on any of our social channels as part of a Feel-Good Friday. 

 

This week, we learn more about the work of the Fieldhaven Feline Center. They support the health and safety of the animals in our community and the people who care for them. The work they did to help cats and people affected by the 2017 Tubbs Fire and the 2018 Camp Fire is featured in the award-winning documentary, “Fire Cats.”

 

Each week we team up with JustServe.org to motivate service in our community. This week, we are learning more about TEAM, Teaching Everyone Animals Matter. They work with volunteers to help shelter animals in our community! 

 

This week We will learn more about Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

 

We’ve teamed up with JustServe.org to motivate service in the Sacramento community! This week, Sheryl visits with the Sacramento Parks Foundation. They discuss a brand-new barrier-free playground they are building and how important it is for families with disabled kids.

 

This week Sheryl visits with 4 Your Epiphany, a local nonprofit that exists to help people break out of the cycles that keep them in disadvantaged situations and helps to launch them into success. They use culturally innovative and relevant approaches to connect youth with mentors, educators and professionals.

We’ve teamed up with JustServe.org to motivate service in the Sacramento community. This week, Sheryl visits with Aspire Kids Sac! They provide food and clothing to at-risk youth. They also help these youth develop self-confidence, leadership skills and strong work ethic by providing a foundation for a successful future.

 

This week, we learn more about B.E.S.T. (Building Empowerment Skills Today). They connect students and residents in the Oak Park neighborhood. The students do yard work for Oak Park residents, while also learning valuable life skills.

 

This week, we visit D&A DETOX. They are a non-medical residential treatment center for alcohol and drugs in a safe home environment, staffed with licensed, certified substance abuse counselors. We’re teaming up with JustServe.org to help motivate service in the Sacramento community! This week, we learn more about the Rocklin Public Safety Foundation. They help our officers patrol with more efficiency, respond with more accuracy and better care for our entire community. They also funding for much-needed resources like K9s and drones!

 

This week we visit with El Dorado County Sheriff Search & Rescue! Their mission is to save lives and reduce human suffering by providing personnel and resources to search, rescue and support the Sheriff’s Department during disaster emergencies. 

 

This week, we learn more about the Auburn Senior Center and the work they do to make sure that seniors in our community have healthy connections! This week we talk with Andrea Zimmerman from JustServe.org about this weekend’s volunteer fair at Granite Bay High School. We also learn about all of the different ways volunteers make a difference in our community.

They support struggling families in the area through mentoring, tutoring, supporting, encouraging and nurturing at-risk students. There is a need for mentors and tutors, and we find out how to get involved and support the work that Folsom’s Hope is doing.

 

This week, we visit with Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary. They provide compassionate care and cage-free shelter for homeless animals while working toward ending overpopulation and mistreatment.

 

We’re teaming up with JustServe.org to help motivate service in the Sacramento Community! This week, we’re talking with the Assistance League of the Sierra Foothills. Their volunteers help to transform the lives of children and adults through community programs.

 

This week, we talk with the American Red Cross Gold Country Region about the many ways they help people affected by wildfires and other natural disasters in the Sacramento area. We also learn about the many opportunities to volunteer and help their organization!

 

We’ve teamed up with JustServe.org to motivate service in the Sacramento community! This week, we learn more about Aging UP. They prepare foster kids for the transition to self-sufficiency by providing independent life skills, education and one-on-one mentoring.

 

This week on Good Deeds, we talk to the American Heart Association, whose network of volunteer medical professionals are working to make Sacramento healthier! One of those volunteers talks to us about the importance of getting caught up on medical screenings that may have been skipped during the pandemic as well as ways each of us can help make our community healthier.

We’ve teamed up with JustServe.org to motivate service in the Sacramento community! Beanstalk has provided childcare and nutrition programs for Sacramento area families who have limited financial resources since 1973.

They address the mental health, addiction, employment, medical, dental and basic needs of the homeless throughout the day with on-site programs.

This week, we focus on Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. They provide food, clothing, and other vital services for local residents to step out of poverty and into a future that allows them to flourish. In addition to helping local people, they are also gearing up to help Ukrainian refugees, who are making their way to Sacramento.

 

We’ve teamed up with JustServe.org to motivate service in the Sacramento community. This week’s “Good Deeds” will feature an interview with the founder of the “High Five for Teachers” 5K, a run to show appreciation to teachers, as well as to raise funds for GOT Kids (Giving Opportunities To Kids).

This week we spoke with A Different Path. A Different Path serves low-income people in the Sacramento area by providing counseling and service to trauma impacted youth and families, to help them experience healing and success in life.

They provide assistance for life-saving diagnostic testing, patient advocacy, prevention education and compassionate support to local women fighting breast cancer.

This week, Sheryl is talking with Meals on Wheels Sacramento, offering home-delivered meals to Sacramento seniors who have difficulty leaving their homes or preparing food for themselves. Their volunteers also provide friendly visits, status checks and other safety-net services.

This week, Sheryl is talking with Cool Davis who provides cool solutions for sustainable living. Their mission is to inspire our community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to a changing climate, and improve the quality of life for all.

This week, we spoke with “A Touch of Understanding,” which provides disability awareness programs to elementary school kids to help them understand the challenges associated with disabilities.

Sheryl is motivating service in the Sacramento area along with JustServe.org, when she visits St John’s Program for Real Change. This is a long-term program that gives women all the tools, support and training they need to escape the cycles of poverty and build a better life for themselves and their families.

This week, Sheryl is motivating service in the Sacramento area along with JustServe.org when she visits Acres of Hope in Auburn. Acres of Hope is a program and a community that provides all the tools and support for women and their children to break the cycle of homelessness.

Sherly visited Single Mom Strong, a community of single mothers that support and empower one another through enrichment, encouragement and educational programs.

This week, Sheryl is motivating service in the Sacramento area along with Just Serve.org when she visits Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s build site in South Sacramento, Mandolin Estates. This low-income housing development is made possible by volunteer donations and labor, as well as over 6500 hours of “sweat equity” put in by future homeowners. We also learn about the other ways Habitat helps veterans, seniors and other vulnerable members of our community.
