Sex and the City star, Cynthia Nixon, confirmed today she is running for Governor of New York.
“I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor. Join us,” she tweeted along with two-minute video.
The actress, who played Miranda on the long-running series, had been rumored to against Governor Andrew Cuomo. However, according to People, she is expected to make education the focus of her campaign.
“I think there are a lot of people who would like me to run for a variety of reasons,” Nixon said on Today‘s Takewhen she addressed the possibility of running. “And I think the No. 1 is education.”
If Nixon wins, she’ll be the first openly gay woman to hold the position.
