Celebrate Lunar New Year in Sacramento This Weekend!

Happy Lunar New Year! In Chinese culture, this year is the year of the rabbit, symbolizing peace, prosperity and longevity. In Vietnamese culture, this year is the year of the cat. The cat symbolizes grace, intelligence, cunning, and independence.

The Sacramento area will be full of celebrations this weekend! Here are a few for you and your family to check out.

ACC Senior Services and The Creative Space are hosting a Lunar New Year Celebration at ACC Senior Services (7334 Park City Dr., Sacramento) this Saturday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, crafters and cultural performances and cooking demonstrations! Get the chance to sample foods and experiences from vendors of different Asian backgrounds and cultures and learn about the many ways people celebrate the beginning of a new year.

The Norcal Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and the Vietnamese American Community of Sacramento are hosting a Lunar New Year/TET Festival from 10 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29 at 5901 Florin Rd, Sacramento. This festival will have carnival rides, kid’s games and family fun, headlining performers, live performing arts, food vendors, a beauty pageant, bingo and raffle prizes and a vendor’s village.

Elk Grove will celebrate Lunar New Year on Sunday with a free event from 1 to 3pm at the Preserve at District 56. The celebration will feature lion dances, crafts and performances, as well as food and entertainment.
