California Debuts New Digital License Plates
By Felicia Czochanski on May 30, 2018
California is debuting a dramatic new license plate with a digital display board. The Sacramento Bee reports that the new plates are rolling out as part of a test pilot in Northern California. If you choose to buy the digital license plate you will be able to register your vehicle electronically and, if the DMV allows it, display your own personal messages. The new digital plates are pricey and are already raising questions about privacy. Dealerships are expected to sell the plates for 699 dollars plus installation. It also comes with a fee (fee) of $7/month. The city of Sacramento will be the first city to test the plates on 24 of its vehicles.
