Attendance at the California State Fair was WAY down this year. Attendance for the fair, which ran from July 13-29, was down 11% from last year. In a press release, fair officials are blaming the 8 days of 100+ degree temperatures. But, even though attendance was down, people spent about the same amount on food and drinks as last year, $8.5 million. And, fairgoers were also quite generous, donating roughly 29,000 pounds of food to the Elk Grove Food Bank.

A lot of people have been asking why the fair was moved from August to July, when it’s typically hotter. The answer. It was moved back in 2010, because many school districts start school in early and mid-August.
