With the legal proceedings over the divorce between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ramping up, it’s been reported that Pitt and his legal team are claiming Jolie’s recent court filings are attempts to sway media coverage. According to People, Pitt’s lawyer, Lance Spiegel, has filed a brief to the Superior Court of the State of California that states that Jolie’s most recent court filing is “unnecessary”, and questions its validity.

Angelina Jolie, in her most recent filing, claims that Pitt has, “paid no meaningful child support since separation”. People also reports that, in addition to seeking past child support, she has asked the court to dissolve the marriage during the divorce proceedings and return their statuses to single before the divorce is resolved.

On Brad Pitt’s side, his legal team is refuting these allegations that Pitt has not paid acceptable amounts of child support. They revealed that the amount of $8 million was “loaned” to Jolie, during her attempts to purchase her current home. Additionally, Pitt’s lawyer presented information that showed Pitt has provided over $1.3 million to help out with bills for Angelina Jolie and the children.

According to reports by People, Angelina Jolie hopes these filings will “provide closure to the marriage in a way that clears a path toward the next stage of their lives and allows her and Brad to recommit as devoted co-parents to their children.”
