“It’s thanks to those contributions that we’ll be able to rebuild in the spring. We’ve already made arrangements to get some hives down south and we’ll bring them up in the spring and we’ll be right back to where we were.”

Late December, two boys broke into a local honey farm in Sioux City, Iowa and killed half a million bees. The boys, aged 12 and 13, are therefore facing felony charges on “criminal mischief, agricultural animal facilities offenses and burglary.”
The young boys broke into the shed of Wild Hill Honey and threw out the bees and equipment into the snow. As a result, they could face up to $10,000 in fines and 10 years in prison. However, it’s likely the case will be settled in juvenile court.
Co-owner of Wild Hill Honey, Justin Engelhardt, told Sioux City Journal:
“They knocked over every single hive, killing all the bees. They wiped us out completely.”
Furthermore, the damages were so severe that Wild Hill Honey is completely out of business. Justin and his wife, Tori, have consequently started a GoFundMe to help re-start the business. They’ve already raised over $30,500 thanks to donations by 838 people.
“It was amazing, and we are deeply grateful for all of the contributions from the people of Sioux City and people around the country.
