The vicious Camp Fire that’s ravaging Northern California is affecting people all across the state. One of the most prominent secondary affects of the blaze is the severe air pollution the blaze has caused. Unfortunately, the air quality is now so bad in some places, many schools are cancelling classes to keep their students safe. In fact, all the Los Rios Colleges here in Sacramento (which includes American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College) are now a part of that group…

According to American River College’s website, classes are now cancelled for the rest of this week. In a statement, they said:

“Regional air quality conditions have not improved as anticipated, so as a result Los Rios colleges (including American River College) are canceling all classes effective immediately and through the rest of this week.”

They’re not the only local schools to close their doors. UC Davis and Sacramento State also cancelled classes on Wednesday, as well as CSU Stanislaus. Outside of colleges, KCRA 3 compiled a list of other schools that are also closed due to air pollution:

  • St. Francis High School
  • Jesuit High School
  • Marysville Joint Unified School District
  • All schools in Sutter County, including Yuba City Unified School District Schools

The massive wildfires are impacting the air quality in areas over 100 miles away, revealed ABC News. It’s also the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the history of the state.
