Adam Sandler is set to make his return to the iconic stage of Studio 8H, to host SNL.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sandler is scheduled to host the May 4th episode, alongside musical guest Shawn Mendes. The occasion will be notable for being Sandler’s first time ever hosting Saturday Night Live. In the statement announcing Sandler’s appearance, executive producer Lorne Michaels said, “We are happy to welcome Adam back to ‘SNL’ in what is sure to be a special night.”

In the past, Sandler has expressed reluctance to host the show, making this announcement quite the surprise. In a past interview with fellow SNL veteran, Norm McDonald, Sandler said, “Why should I [host]? There are guys who love doing it, who are great at doing it. I just don’t know how good I’d be doing it. I did what I could do on that show.”

After his abrupt firing from SNL back in 1995, Sandler has still made occasional cameo performances on the show. For the 40th anniversary of the show, Sandler teamed up with Andy Samberg for a special short back in 2015.
