Woman Chooses To “Marry” Herself To Stop Family From Bugging Her
A woman held a mock wedding for her friends and family, where she “married” herself as a way to keep her parents from bugging her about finding a husband.

A woman, tired of being hounded by her family to settle down and find the right man, held a mock wedding where she married herself. The ceremony was held as a way for her to celebrate herself, and her commitment to focus on her career and academics before even thinking of finding a spouse.
According to the Mirror, Lulu Jemimah staged the pretend ceremony, with both friends and family present, and her only expense was the $3 cab ride to the venue. The rest of the wedding came together through the help of her friends’ volunteering to help and the gifts they provided to help make the ceremony a success. Lulu’s Ugandan parents were reportedly confused at first, and were unsure why she chose to hold this unusual celebration.

Lulu expressed her pride in her achievements, and the things that she had accomplished while focusing on herself, instead of looking for a long-term relationship. “I have a strong passion in life and I am committed to achieving my goals at becoming an academic,” she explained. “But all my family wanted to ask me was when I planned to get married – which is very important back in Uganda – followed by when I would be having children and starting a family.”
After previously working as a freelance journalist and communication consultant, Lulu received a film scholarship from Macquarie University in Australia, were she completed her studies and was then accepted to Oxford University to complete her masters degree.
