You Could Soon Have to Pay To Go Into Downtown San Francisco

A state senator is trying to tackle the problem with a bill that would allow the city of San Francisco to charge cars to enter downtown.

San Francisco is known for a lot of things, including its worsening traffic. Now a state senator is trying to tackle the problem with a bill that would allow the city of San Francisco to charge cars to enter downtown.

Assembly Bill 3059 was first introduced in February and was written by Assemblyman Richard Bloom and Senator Scott Wiener and could be heard as soon as next week. The legislation would allow local jurisdictions to pass their own individual congestion pricing pilot programs, or “Go Zones” in four unnamed California cities, two here in Northern California and two in Southern California with the goal of reducing traffic congestion, accidents and support other transportation systems. No word on how much the city might charge.
