Sarah Silverman, in true comedian fashion, still made a joke when she announced her split with Michael Sheen. The two dated for four years.

On Monday, Feb. 5, she wrote on Twitter:

“The great & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas. I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ – like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?'”

Michael moved back home to the United Kingdom after his and Kate Beckinsale’s daughter, Lily, got accepted into New York University.

Apparently, Sarah made this public announcement on Michael’s birthday. His phone must have been blowing up because she soon after added:

“Can u believe it?? He said I wasn’t THOUGHTFUL. Jerk… Anyway, Happy Birthday, Michael…”

Break ups are hard, no matter what the reason, but it looks like Sarah is trying to find the humor in the situation. She posted a photo on Instagram of personalized M&Ms with Sarah and Michael printed on them. She captioned it:

“Been ending every night with a microwaved bowl of personalized m&ms given to me by the very thoughtful and very cruel @katebeckinsale to remind me that I’m alone in this world. So very alone. THANKS, KATE. (Seriously they are so good esp melted which is why the microwave).”

When fans starting giving Kate Beckinsale a hard time about this, Sarah later added that it was a joke:

“I’m seeing stuff on twitter about this and need to clear up I’m KIDDING (good lord) she gave me these for Christmas before M & I broke up!!!!”

Kate was married to Michael for eight years. As the Christmas present might show, Kate and Sarah are close, reports E! News. Back in 2016, when Sarah was dating Michael, Kate told the Talk:

“We get on really well. I mean, I love Sarah. I’d love her if she didn’t have anything to do with Michael. I’m just glad Michael found her. I think, especially actors for some reason, they think you’re throwing shoes at each other and plotting each other’s death—we’re not. She’s lovely.”
