We hear a lot of stories like this, this time of year, but it usually happens in another city or state. But, not this time!

An anonymous donor dropped a gold Kruggerrand into a Salvation Army Red Kettle hanging at Sam’s Club in Roseville. The South African Kruggerrand is a one ounce gold coin that was first minted in 1967. The coin is in mint condition and could fetch around 15 hundred dollars.

And, while that is an incredible donation, the Salvation Army of Roseville is says it’s behind in its donations by almost $30,000 this year. A big hit for the organization that relies on generosity this time of year to fund programs all year long.

All the money they collect stays in the community and goes toward rental assistance, utility assistance, food boxes and more. The Salvation Army says one of the reasons its so far behind is because they don’t have enough volunteers to ring bells.
