Police are warning you about a Delivery Man Credit Card scam happening in Placer County.

According to Placer PROTECT, a resident living in Del Webb got a phone call from someone claiming to work for a delivery company who said they had a delivery for them that required a signature. They arranged a delivery time and about an hour later the person showed up at the house with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine. The delivery person told the homeowner they owed a fee of $3.50 to verify receipt since it included alcohol, to prove the delivery was made to someone over 21. The person offered to pay in cash, but were told they had to pay with credit. The scammer then took the resident’s card, ran it through a mobile card reader, and asked for their PIN.

Over $4,000 was taken from the resident’s debit card within the following four days. Police are warning to always be aware when accepting packages you aren’t expecting. They also recommend asking to verify the sender’s information and never give out your credit card information.
