I’ve said it before, and I’ll always say it, mom’s are the best, and they’ll do anything for their children. This mom was running in a marathon, and stopped to take a break and breastfeed her 3-month-old son. The race, the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, is a foot race that goes through France, Italy, and Switzerland. It’s about 106 miles in total length and passes through winter and heat conditions.

Sophie Power was competing in the race. The race is broken up, of course, into sections. There are “rest stop” areas during the run, which can take more than 50 total hours to finish. Not only did Sophie complete the run (all 106 miles) in just over 43.5 hours, but she breastfed her baby during the race. She ran a 16-hour stretch across Italy before she was able to stop to feed her son, who was waiting with her husband.

Sophie says that her husband was travelling between stops by car, and would meet her along the route. They met at various “aid stations” where he gave her a breast pump. She’d fill a bottle, and continue running while her husband took the milk back to the baby. She says that she normally feeds her son, Cormac, every three hours or so. She said that she was in pain during the run, and had to hand express while running. A dedicated mother who pulled off an impressive feat. See more on her story and pictures of the family here.
