Judge Rules Starbucks Must Put A Cancer Warning On Coffee Sold In California
Starbucks and the other companies named in the lawsuit have until April 10th to file objections.

Starbucks and other coffee companies could soon have to slap a cancer warning label on coffee sold in California following a Los Angeles judge’s ruling, which could leave companies vulnerable to large fines.
It all stems from a lawsuit by a lesser known not-for-profit group that sued nearly 90 coffee shops, including Starbucks, saying they were violating the California law that requires companies to warn customers of chemicals in their products that could cause cancer.
The lawsuit specifically named the chemical, acrylamide, a byproduct of roasting coffee beans that is present in high levels in brewed coffee. The Los Angeles Superior Court Judge handed down his decision Wednesday saying, Starbucks and other companies failed to show there was no significant risk from a carcinogen produced in the coffee roasting process.
Starbucks and the other companies named in the lawsuit have until April 10th to file objections.
