After the media coverage that surrounded former Cosby Show star, Geoffrey Owens, when photos of him working his job in a grocery store and people’s reactions went viral online, it was announced that Owens will be joining Tyler Perry’s television show in a recurring role.

According to ET Online, Perry offered Owens the chance to appear on his show, after hearing about the news revealing his work at a Trader Joe’s. In a tweet out to Owens, Perry said:  I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.”

Owens was initially unsure if the offer was real, and grateful for the unexpected generosity. He also expressed reservations about being offered work from all the recent publicity. “I don’t necessarily feel comfortable being given things as a result of this,” the actor explained. “I mean, I’m not in a position to turn things down but… I don’t expect that kind of thing. I like the idea of, you know, put me in the room with everyone else and see if I’m the right one for the job.”

After learning that the offer from Tyler Perry was legitimate, Owens accepted the role to appear on OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots. These 10 episodes will reportedly begin filming in Atlanta, Georgia next week.
