A man was trying to hold back a sneeze but the pressure blew a small hole in his throat!
KSL.com says that a new report out of the medical journal BMJ Case Reports says that a man blew a hole in his own throat by trying to hold in a sneeze!
The man says that he closed his mouth and pinched his nose during a forceful sneeze and he felt his neck pop. Hours later he felt pain, his voice began to change and he began to swell so he went to the hospital where they found:
“actual streaks of air in the retropharyngeal region and extensive surgical emphysema in the neck anterior to the trachea”
The pressure from his sneeze had blown a small hole in his throat!

Luckily, the man did not need surgery but he did have to be admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks to recover from his injury.
Doctors have reportedly seen other injuries, ranging from “sinus problems, middle and inner ear damage, ear infections and a ruptured ear drum” from people who try to hold in their sneezes.
Experts say to NOT try to stop your sneezes as it can be dangerous::
“Halting sneeze via blocking nostrils and mouth is a dangerous maneuver,” the report recommended. It “should be avoided, as it may lead to numerous complications.”
