Woah! This is scary! A lot of just assume if something’s sold in a store, it’s safe for us and our kids. But, not one mom in Rhode Island. Krisit Warner bought her 6 year old daughter one of the makeup kits, but quickly became concerned about its safety. So, she sent it to an independent lab and found it tested positive for tremolite asbestos, which could lead to malignant mesothelioma later in life.

Claire’s released a statement on its Facebook page saying, “At Claire’s the safety of our customers is of paramount importance, and we are passionate about the safety and integrity of our products. We work closely with our vendors to ensure our products are tested and assessed in line with the relevant country regulations and guidelines. As a result of today’s inquiry from WJAR-TV, we have taken the precautionary measure of pulling the items in question from sale, and will be conducting an immediate investigation into the alleged issues. Once we have more information and have the results of the investigation we will take the necessary action.”

This isn’t the first time make up designed for children has tested positive for asbestos. The same lab reportedly discovered asbestos in makeup from kids’ retailer, Justice. Justice, however, has dismissed those findings as “inaccurate” after they sent the makeup to their own independent lab which found no traces of asbestos.
