There’s a solid reason why Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella performance had a college theme. She announced that she’s giving away $100,000 in scholarships to historically black colleges and universities.
The pop legend is granting the scholarships thanks to her Homecoming Scholars Award program, which is part of her BeyGOOD initiative. One student from Xavier, Wilberforce, Tuskegee and Bethune-Cookman gets $25,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year.

According to Nylon, this is the second year Beyoncé is running a scholars program. Last April, she started a merit scholarship program called Formation Scholars Awards Program.
Students need to maintain a 3.5 GPA in order to qualify, and the universities select the finalists. Finally, the winners will be announced this summer.
