916 Area Code – Big Changes You Need To Know Start Saturday

In case you haven’t heard – or weren’t paying much attention – starting Saturday everyone within the 916 area code is going to have to dial more numbers to make a call.

In case you haven’t heard, or weren’t paying much attention, starting Saturday morning everyone within the 916 area code is going to have to dial more numbers to make a call.

If you still have a landline, you”ll need to dial 1+ the area code to make a call, even a local one. If you’re using a cell phone, you’ll only need to dial the area code and number. Most cell phone users will not have to dial 1 first.

It’s all because Sacramento is getting a new area code. Instead of just being the 916, starting March 10th, new phone numbers will be giving the new 279 area code.

And, it’s worth mentioning, nothing changes should you need to call 9-1-1. That will remain a 3 digit call.
